I know it looked lame in valves blog post but i've had a play about with it and its actually quite fun, theres a free single player and free multi player version. So if you like messing about in a sandbox, given free reign to build what you want i suggest you check it out http://minecraft.net/

and within 5 minutes somebody on multiplayer deletes it all.

 

I've already played this game, and didn't like it much. After digging my own cave in Survival mode (now known as Alpha), finding some enormous lava fields and underground lakes and gathering all types of ores while going, it suddenly stopped being good. I don't know what hit it, or what hit me, I just stopped playing it. Probably because all ores, all wood, all material, they serve no purpose in later use. You collect them, you use them to the max, they are gone. Of course you can put them in a chest or on ground, but what about it? Is the game all about getting more and more gold, then posting a screenshot of your chest full of gold to a forum dedicated for Minecraft -players and gaining bragging rights?

Classic might be fun if you would get to know some good players in some servers to prevent your buildings from being swiped in auto-clean. Team-building makes some good fun, though.

Overall, if you like games like this, Minecraft will kick in real hard and you can't stop playing it. If you don't like them... Meh. I don't like these types of games, so that's probably I failed to view from different views.
However, I'd like to tip my finest hat to Notch, for developing this game alone. I've also always liked it that something, that looks this simple, has some really complex features within the game.

 

Its not a competative game, its just a sandbox, its just an environment to build what you want. its like the mode on roller coaster tycoon where you got infinate money and just built a park for the sake of building a park.

 

actually on zoo tycoon (not on rollercoaster tycoon) you build a park and then trap all the humans in and let the animals/dinasaurs eat them :3

No matter what people say; with a TV that big, minecraft HAS to be awesome (and it is).

I also bought the game and made a Pyro skin for myself, I recommend buying it as the survival mode included with the Alpha download is amazingly fun and addicting.
