So I ordered RAM that is not supported by my Motherboards XMP.
I'm wondering what will happen if I use this ram, will it work at the lowest default of the motherboard and then allow me to setup XMP or will just flat off not work ?

The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 and the RAM is Patriot PC4-24000 "Viper 4" KIT (16GB - Dual Channel).

you probably have custom settings you can dial in for xmp unless gigabyte decided to exclude a basic compatibility feature of xmp.
