w/e just need to play the games more then.

 

You only get a set number of drops based on how much money you have spent on the game in question. Games which you purchased or purchased before they went free to play will have a certain number of drops already. For any free to play games, you will gain more drops based on how much money you spend in them at approx one card drop per $9 (according to the FAQ).

So if you joined tf2 after it went free to play, you probably won't have any drops (if you spent money in the mann co store before the trading cards and after tf2 went free to play, I'm not sure if you get any card drops).

For non free to play games, you will get a certain number of card drops (roughly half of the set), and that is it. The rest, you will have to trade for or buy.
